TBR Mix N’ Mingle – March 2019

by Rachel

Welcome back to another edition of TBR Mix n’ Mingle and Happy Women’s History Month! On the first Wednesday of every month, we share our most anticipated reads and invite you to do the same!

Make sure to add your TBR list in the linkup at the bottom of the post. Don’t forget to check out all of the other TBR lists linked as well! Don’t have a blog? Tell us about the books you want to read in the comments below.

Here’s what we’re reading this month…

GBC’s title is River in Darkness, my TLC read is a new thriller, written by Peter Swanson, and my “personal” pick is Sourdough, by Robin Sloan). But one of the books that I’m REALLY excited to get to… hopefully this month…. is The Radium Girls, by Kate Moore. It tracks the historical impact of radium on America’s 20th century women, and while it’s non-fiction, I’ve been told it reads like a story.

The two titles I am most looking forward to reading in March are The Huntress by Kate Quinn and Castle on the Rise by Kristy Cambron. I am a huge fan of Kate Quinn’s previous WWII novel The Alice Network (a story of female spies during the war), and am excited to dig in to The Huntress which follows a Nazi murderess, a female bomber pilot and a journalist’s quest for justice. Cambron’s Castle on the Rise is not quite as intense, but it follows The Lost Castle in a series and promises the same enchanting story of fantasy, rebellion and reality.

I’m finally reading Turtles All the Way Down by John Green and loving it!

A book I added to my TBR this month that sort of fits that theme is The Body Myth by Rheea Mukherjee. The description really just drew me in, to where I couldn’t help but request it from the library immediately! It goes something like this…Mira is a teacher living in the heart of Suryam, a modern bustling in city India, and the only place in the world the fickle Rasagura fruit grows. Mira lives alone, and with only the French existentialists as companions, until the day she witnesses a beautiful woman having a seizure in the park. Mira runs to help her but is cautious, for she could have sworn the woman looked around to see if anyone was watching right before the seizure began.

A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum
I didn’t hesitate to order this debut novel as my February Book of the Month, and I’m actually surprised I haven’t read it already. It’s a look at the lives of conservative Arab women living in America, and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things! I’ll definitely be making it a point to pick it up in March.

Women Talking by Miriam Toews
Though this novel is based on real events, its description reminds me of a feminist dystopia (my favorite genre). It follows eight Mennonite women who must protect themselves and their daughters. I’ve had this book from NetGalley for a while now, and I’m really looking forward to diving into it this month.

Kendra, I am in the same boat! It is sitting on my table just STARING at me! Have you seen the video trailer that William Morrow put out? If not, you should check it out here.. If that doesn’t encourage people to read it, I don’t know what would!
