πŸ’œπŸ’” ENOUGH stack for tighter gun control regulations πŸ’”πŸ’œ

How many more have to be killed by gun violence for things to change? This is senseless, infuriating, world-rocking stuff. How can we not all agree that a mentally unstable 18-year-old shouldn't be able two buy guns in order to kill innocent children? How is it even possible that people can STILL not vote for gun control? It sickens me to no end.

So, please join @readingrowans in the #enoughstack challenge to raise money for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Everytown for Gun Safety. There's also a link in my profile to join @iamthirtyaf's fundraiser for @everytown by donating yourself. If you're incensed, do something about it. We can't watch more innocent people (children) get slaughtered. πŸ’”

This book cover 😍😍! And the ARC has a glossy cover, so it just feels like a beautiful photograph. So pumped to have won THE LAST KARANKAWAS in a Goodreads giveaway! It sounds as good as it looks, too!

Synopsis:
Welcome to Galveston, Texas. Population 50,241.

Carly Castillo has only ever known Albacore Avenue. Abandoned as a child by her Filipina mother and Mexican-American father, Carly returns each morning from her nursing shift to the house she shares with her grandmother, Magdalena. But when Magdalena slips into dementia, Carly begins to imagine a life elsewhere. Jess Rivera, her boyfriend and all-star shortstop turned seaman, treasures the salty, familiar island air. Years ago, he had a chance to leave Galveston for a bigger city with more possibilities. But he didn’t then, and he sure as hell won't now. Deftly moving through these characters’ lives and those of the individuals who circle themβ€”Mercedes, Jess’s undocumented cousin; Kristin, Magdalena’s daytime nurse; Luz, the wife of Carly’s best friend; Schafer, Jess’s coworker out on the gulfβ€”Garza presents a mosaic depiction of everyday survival in Southern Texas. As word spreads of a storm gathering strength offshore, building into Hurricane Ike, they each must make a difficult decision: board up the windows and hunker down, or flee inland and abandon their hard-won home.

Unflinching, lyrical, and singular, The Last Karankawas is a portrait of America scarcely witnessed, where browning palm trees and oily waters mark the forefront of ecological change. It is a deeply imagined exploration of familial inheritance, human perseverance, and the histories we assign to ourselves, establishing Kimberly Garza as a brilliant new literary voice.

Current read: Upgrade by @blakecrouch1! If this one is anything like Dark Matter and Recursion, I'll get super sucked in and read it within a few days πŸ˜†. Will you be picking this one up?? It'll be out in July!

Synopsis:
β€œYou are the next step in human evolution.”

At first, Logan Ramsay isn’t sure if anything’s different. He just feels a little . . . sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorizing better, needing less sleep.

But before long, he can’t deny it: Something’s happening to his brain. To his body. He’s starting to see the world, and those around himβ€”even those he loves mostβ€”in whole new ways.

The truth is, Logan’s genome has been hacked. And there’s a reason he’s been targeted for this upgrade. A reason that goes back decades to the darkest part of his past, and a horrific family legacy.

Worse still, what’s happening to him is just the first step in a much larger plan, one that will inflict the same changes on humanity at largeβ€”at a terrifying cost.

Because of his new abilities, Logan’s the one person in the world capable of stopping what’s been set in motion. But to have a chance at winning this war, he’ll have to become something other than himself. Maybe even something other than human.

And even as he’s fighting, he can’t help wondering: what if humanity’s only hope for a future really does lie in engineering our own evolution?

This was fun to put together πŸ˜„. Migrations is a new addition to my shelves and it sure is pretty 😍. I've only read Brooklyn, Wild, and Pest from this stack. I know I'm missing out having not read the rest of them yet. Soon I hope 🀞🏻🀞🏻. Spot any favorites?

Well, I'm back from my first ever (work) trip to sunny Florida, and I'm now convinced that I need to go back with my family sometime 😊. Anyway, I just keep thinking about this book on my TBR (The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton), so I'm pretty convinced it should be my next read 😍. Also, my Lilac bush is starting to bloom and it smells divine!

Question: what's your favorite US state to vacation in?

It's my last day in Orlando FL today. This picture is a little deceiving, as I mostly had work stuff, not lying by the pool stuff. But for that little relax time, it was fantastic πŸŒ΄πŸ•Ά. As for the book, I still have 30 pages left, but what a fun story πŸ’œπŸ˜€. I'll post a review sometime after I finish!
