Congrats @suzanneparrywrites on this gorgeous story coming out this past week! Not sure how you can take something so very bleak and make it so beautiful. This book will break your heart and make it swell with love for these characters 💖. Happiest of pub days to Lost Souls of Leningrad! Find my full review at the link in my bio.

Helloooo Little Free Library drop 🤩. The official drop day was actually 2 days ago, but, well, here we are. Welcome to my LFL, The Angel Maker by Alex North! This book doesn't even come out until early next year, but now you can get an ARC in my library, and other participating libraries (if it hasn't already been snatched up). Good luck, local friends on being the first to get here 😄.

I'm back from vacation and in unpack/laundry mode...and also reading mode, because book club is Monday night and I'm 27% into the book 😅. I always mean to read more on vacation! Someday I won't have a 4-year-old who needs to swim 24/7 😜. ANYway, I brought STILL LIFE by Sarah Winman along with me. The cover is just gorgeous and I've been intrigued by the synopsis, so when I saw it avaliable at the library, I grabbed it. Unfortunately I won't get to it this time before it's due, but I'm hoping we meet again 😄.

Synopsis:
Tuscany, 1944: As Allied troops advance and bombs fall around deserted villages, a young English soldier, Ulysses Temper, finds himself in the wine cellar of a deserted villa. There, he has a chance encounter with Evelyn Skinner, a middle-aged art historian who has come to Italy to salvage paintings from the ruins and recall long-forgotten memories of her own youth. In each other, Ulysses and Evelyn find a kindred spirit amongst the rubble of war-torn Italy, and set off on a course of events that will shape Ulysses's life for the next four decades.

As Ulysses returns home to London, reimmersing himself in his crew at The Stoat and Parrot -- a motley mix of pub crawlers and eccentrics -- he carries his time in Italy with him. And when an unexpected inheritance brings him back to where it all began, Ulysses knows better than to tempt fate, and returns to the Tuscan hills.

With beautiful prose, extraordinary tenderness, and bursts of humor and light, Still Life is a sweeping portrait of unforgettable individuals who come together to make a family, and a richly drawn celebration of beauty and love in all its forms.
