Brooklyn

by Joli April 27, 2020

Occupation: Administrative Assistant

City:  Winnipeg, MB

Preferred Genres:
Fantasy
Romance
YA

Favorite Books:
The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas
The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Reading Habits:

A lot of what I remember about being a kid is reading. I read as much and as often as I could and I cherished every moment of being taken into these fantasy worlds and becoming someone else for a few hours. I always said I was going to be a writer when I grew up. I remember reading when I went on walks outside with my mom. One eye on the road and one on the book. I’ve moved a lot since starting and finishing university and my current apartment is the first place I’ve brought my book collection. It’s not huge but it contains all of my tried and true favourites. My home finally feels complete with that collection here.

After finishing my bachelors degree and getting a full time job, my love of reading and writing were finally able to flourish. I have no more textbooks to read so I’ve been able to rekindle my love of reading and throw myself into all of the books that I missed out on during my four years in university. Reading and writing have now started taking up all of my free time along with my blog, Struggling 20 Something, where I post advice for new (and maybe not so new) young adults. I’m so excited to share my love of reading with all of you!

This goooorgeous book came in the mail yesterday and it looks SO good. Excited to be on the blog tour for it in May! Also, it's just beautiful underneath the dust cover...I'll toss a quick video in my stories! Thanks @otrpr and @amazonpublishing for my copy 😍

About WHERE WATERS MEET:
There was rarely a time when Phoenix Yuan-Whyller’s mother, Rain, didn’t live with her. Even when Phoenix got married, Rain, who followed her from China to Toronto, came to share Phoenix’s life. Now at the age of eighty-three, Rain’s unexpected death ushers in a heartrending separation.

Struggling with the loss, Phoenix comes across her mother’s suitcase—a memory box Rain had brought from home. Inside, Phoenix finds two old photographs and a decorative bottle holding a crystallized powder. Her auntie Mei tells her these missing pieces of her mother’s early life can only be explained when they meet, and so, clutching her mother’s ashes, Phoenix boards a plane for China. What at first seems like a daughter’s quest to uncover a mother’s secrets becomes a startling journey of self-discovery.

Told across decades and continents, Zhang Ling’s exquisite novel is a tale of extraordinary courage and survival. It illuminates the resilience of humanity, the brutalities of life, the secrets we keep and those we share, and the driving forces it takes to survive.

Oh hi there! It's been a minute. I'm still around, but I've definitely noticed that posting new content on my blog does a whole lot more for my traffic than posting on Insta. But also, I miss the bookish interaction! And this cute LFL has missed its publicity 😆. How are you, friends? My daughter is now 4.5 and can be seen rolling in the slush just to the right of the LFL in this pic 👀. She now LOVES board games and card games and Lego. I've been spending a lot of time decluttering lately, thanks for all the inspo @abundantlifewithless. Other than that, life as usual!

Congrats @suzanneparrywrites on this gorgeous story coming out this past week! Not sure how you can take something so very bleak and make it so beautiful. This book will break your heart and make it swell with love for these characters 💖. Happiest of pub days to Lost Souls of Leningrad! Find my full review at the link in my bio.

Helloooo Little Free Library drop 🤩. The official drop day was actually 2 days ago, but, well, here we are. Welcome to my LFL, The Angel Maker by Alex North! This book doesn't even come out until early next year, but now you can get an ARC in my library, and other participating libraries (if it hasn't already been snatched up). Good luck, local friends on being the first to get here 😄.
