Book Review: The Last Widow

Bruised, broken, lost. Confined to a room in the middle of nowhere with no hope of escaping on your own. Everyone around you seems to be preparing for something. Something big. Something dangerous. And there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

Sarah Linton has been kidnapped by a group of people who are willing to do whatever it takes and sacrifice as many people as they deem necessary to get what they want, and there’s nothing she can do but wait in the hopes that Detective Will Trent will find her.

Meanwhile, an attack on the local university and hospital has the police force and community reeling. Danger is closing in from all sides, and it’s up to Will Trent to find a way to stop those responsible before hundreds more people are killed.

Karin Slaughter does not disappoint. EVER. Never before have I come across an author who is so darn consistent!! She has written countless novels and every single one I have read has been absolutely captivating. The Last Widow is no exception.

Not only is The Last Widow a phenomenal thriller, it is also particularly relevant to the current political and social climate in the US. The assailants allow fear and a desire for control in an ever-changing society to rule them, and this fear combined with a shocking lack of empathy turns them into extremely dangerous and violent criminals.

The main characters have a depth to them that makes them feel real, pulling the reader into their world and making the novel nearly impossible to put down.

Karin Slaughter knows exactly how to draw a reader in and provides just enough twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes from start to finish. Each and every one of her novels is a masterpiece, and The Last Widow might be her best one yet.
